The Anansi Story

The Story of Anansi begins in Ghana. Stories about a Spider-God were spread by oral tradition, never written down... yet they traveled the world. And still, to this day, stories about Anansi are being told and retold.

Fly-catching Creation

Picture
By Amelie aged 7

Ameilie describes in great detail, all the work involved:

"First, I got an orange and some tissue paper and painted the black paper.

When the black paint was drying, I stuck some eyes on it.

Then I got pipe cleaners and made 8 holes with scissors and put the legs in.

Finally, I got 2 pom poms, wrapped some pipe cleaners into wings and that made them into flies.

For the background, I crunched up cardboard and drew silver lines where the cracks were made for my spider web.”

SUPERB!!!!

Hanging Masterpiece

Picture
By Gaia aged 5

Gaia also spent much time and effort perfecting her grand masterpiece .

Starting with just a simple piece of white fabric, Gaia designed, decorated and hand-sewed her masterpiece all by herself!

"We only had white fabric in the house," explained Gaia's Mum.

Gaia coloured the white fabric, then decorated it with such attention to detail.

Gaia’s Mum said, “She loved the challenge and dedicated so much time to think on what and how to do it... and had so much fun doing both creations!"

"Hi I'm Suzanne, storyteller and writer of 'Not a Teensy Bite'. Although I have told and written many stories about Anansi Spider, I feel that Anansi's story is not mine to own."

Anansi is EVERYONE'S story....

"That's why I wanted to give children the opportunity to create their own Anansi story. They could write a short piece, draw picture or get creative in any way imaginable. I couldn't wait to see what ideas they came up with - and I was certainly amazed!!!!"
