A Moment of Remembrance
History may be written
Yet it is neither black nor white
But a prism of colour casting an eclipse of light
On events that refract our insight
It is a timeless journey so infinite
Wielding through thought and space
From the beginning of humankind
To the movement of people, classified by race
It is a lived experience
Through our senses, seen, felt and heard
Like a chameleon reconfiguring its guise on the world
It transforms, shaping our spoken word
It is a movement of moment
Which will all too soon come to pass
Leaving in its wake a trail of memories
Each generation hopes will last
But with many moments of remembrance
There are plenty more we forget
Despite the imprint they leave behind us
And to the future we haven't yet met
